Today, The Institute of Trichologists is the foremost professional association for Trichologists in Europe (and possibly the world). It is the longest established body of its type.<br />Registered members of The Institute of Trichologists are fully qualified and are entitled to use the letters FIT, MIT or AIT after their names. They will have certificates to prove their status. To gain an understanding of the complex nature of the human body, trichologists study areas such as body systems, nutrition, and the chemistry and physiology of the hair and scalp. The trainee trichologist will also study pharmaceutical preparations, trichological procedures, hair shaft problems, hair loss and scalp disorders, chemistry, electrotherapy, microdiagnostic techniques, microbiology and genetics and much more. Unfortunately anyone can set up as a 'trichologist' or 'hair loss clinic' with no training, no qualification and no aptitude whatever.
